Belle Isle Aquarium


The Belle Isle Aquarium is one of the oldest public aquariums in the United States. Opened in 1904, the aquarium originally served as a showcase for freshwater fish species native to the Great Lakes region.

Over the years, the Belle Isle Aquarium has expanded its collection to include a diverse array of marine life from around the world, including tropical fish, corals, and invertebrates. Visitors to the aquarium can explore a variety of exhibits showcasing aquatic ecosystems and learn about the importance of conservation and marine biodiversity.

Despite temporarily closing its doors in 2005 due to budget constraints, the Belle Isle Aquarium was reopened to the public in 2012 thanks to community efforts and support.
